FAQs (frequently asked questions)
Q: Do I need to register for TeenBookCon?
A: Yes! Registration is FREE!! Remember to print out and bring your FastPass (or save the confirmation email on your phone) to speed through the registration line when you arrive! TeenBookCon is open to everyone (and FREE thanks to our generous sponsors). Priority seating will be given to teens at all sessions.
A: Part 1: The Keynote Address begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Theater. The doors will open at 9 a.m. for book sales and activities. We will have tables set up with activities throughout the day. Everyone will want to make their way to the theater by 9:30 a.m. for author introductions and the Keynote Address.
A: Part 2: After the Keynote Address, authors will head to their panel rooms and teens will choose from different panels to attend. Panels are listed on the schedule page. All authors will speak on their panels multiple times. You choose which panels you would like to attend. The authors will stay in their rooms and teens will move from room to room to attend the different panel discussions (kind of like classes during the day in high school, only WAY more fun)! Some sessions may fill to capacity. If that happens, volunteers will be stationed at the doors asking attendees to choose another panel session to attend at that time, but remember--each author speaks multiple times throughout the day.
A: Part 3: At the end of the day, there will be an autographing session with all TeenBookCon authors. Books will be available for purchase throughout the day at TeenBookCon thanks to our partner, Blue Willow Bookshop. The full schedule is posted on the TeenBookCon website.

Q: Will I be able to hear every author speak at TeenBookCon?
A: Unless you can clone yourself, sadly, the answer is no. There are 25+ authors at TeenBookCon. You will be choosing from multiple panel sessions throughout the day. So spend some time studying the schedule before TeenBookCon to make sure you get to see those authors you are most excited about!
Q: How do I get to see the authors I'm most excited about?
A: You don't register ahead of time for any particular author session. Each author will speak multiple times, so you have several chances to hear him/her speak. We welcome all community members, but if teens are waiting to get into a crowded session, any seated adults will be asked to give up their places for teens. If you don’t get a seat in your first choice panel, go to another room and try again during the next session. The schedule of the day is on the TeenBookCon website under the Schedule tab. We work hard to make sure there is adequate space for everyone to get to see their authors.
Q: What about the coronavirus - should I be worried about being around all those people?
A: We are in contact with CFISD, the host school district, to monitor the developing situation surrounding the COVID-19 coronavirus. Like all CFISD campuses, Cy Woods High School has wall‐mounted soap dispensers in restrooms and free‐standing hand sanitizer dispensers at the building and cafeteria entrances. In addition, campus custodial staff will continue to disinfect campuses each day with hospital-grade products to help offset the spread of communicable illnesses.
We encourage people to follow local health officials as well as this information from the CDC:
The CDC put together a Traveler’s Health Notices page for information on traveling.
You can also check the local government website to get an understanding of what is happening in a specific city.
The CDC recommends that anyone planning to travel check themselves for symptoms of acute respiratory illness before starting travel and stay home if they are sick.
More information about the Corona Virus can be found on the CDC website.
For the purpose of protecting our authors and everyone in attendance from potential pathogens, please respect their personal space and refrain from hugging or shaking hands.
If anything changes, we will announce it on our website and our social media platforms - we are @teenbookcon on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
Q: Can I bring my own books for the authors to sign at TeenBookCon?
A: Yes, here is the full scoop about books at TBC: Blue Willow Bookshop is the official bookseller of TeenBookCon. All featured authors’ books will be available for purchase throughout the day. A price list will be available approximately one month prior to TeenBookCon.
All authors will be available to sign only books. You must purchase a book at TeenBookCon to get into the signing lines.
You may buy as many books as you would like to have signed that day, but to enter the signing lines, you must have a receipt from Blue Willow showing that you have purchased at least one of the authors’ books from the festival. Your receipt from Blue Willow will also entitle you to bring 2 additional books from home to be signed by the authors as well.
Cash and Credit Cards will be accepted. Buy books at the festival, support TBC, and then have the books signed by your favorite authors at the end of the day. How cool is that!
Q: Wristband author lines? What's that? ***NOT IN EFFECT FOR TBC2020***
A: ***NOT IN EFFECT FOR TBC2020*** Several of our authors will be able to sign only a limited number of books during author signing time, and we want to make sure everyone in their lines gets an autograph rather than being turned away and told we've run out of time. We will have a drawing to select a certain number of wristband winners who will be able to go through these lines. You must be present at the event the day of TBC to enter the drawing. Here are some details; please read them carefully:
2020 Wristbanded Author Signing Lines:???
Enter the drawing at the event before 11:00 AM
ONE ENTRY PER PERSON; duplicate entries will be deleted
Instructions for entering will be posted at the event
Each person can win one (1) wristband for only one (1) of the authors
You will be asked to rank your author preference
To go through a wristbanded signing line, you must have at least one book by that author - bought from Blue Willow Bookshop or brought from home - to use the wristband
Winning names will be drawn and announced by 11:25
Names of winners will be posted on printed sheets AND on this website
Winners must claim their wristbands during one of the lunch breaks
Wristbands not claimed by the end of the last lunch (1:00) will be redrawn
You will need to SHOW AN ID (school ID or driver's license) to claim the wristband
Only YOU can claim your wristband (do not send a friend)
Teens will be given priority over adults
Winners receive a wristband to get one (1) of the featured author's autographs
You can have one (1) of the author's books personalized and up to two (2) more autographed
Procedures above apply only to the three authors in the wristband signing lines
You may get autographs from as many of the other authors as you'd like (time permitting)
Q: I'm not a teen. Can I still come to TeenBookCon?
A: Yes, TeenBookCon welcomes all fans of YA literature. Please keep in mind that TeenBookCon is first and foremost an event for teens so we ask that in all panel sessions, teens should be given first priority in seating and be given the chance to ask questions of our authors first and also, as we mentioned earlier, if a panel session becomes full, any seated adult will be asked to give up their seat to make room for teens! Please keep in mind that due to the tight schedule of TeenBookCon, there will not be an opportunity to conduct separate interviews with TeenBookCon authors. Nor will there be time for book signings at the end of panel sessions.
Please make sure all teens and chaperones attending register and check in when you arrive to be eligible for door prizes!
Q: What if we want to bring a bus full of teens to the event?
A: Yay! We welcome large groups to TeenBookCon.
We will have our bus information posted here shortly.
*Do not park buses in the bus drive area. Be sure you and your students know where you will be meeting at the end of the day as the pick-up area for buses will be the same as the drop-off area. Chaperoning your students is up to you.
You can save time on arrival by registering your teens (and yourself and any other chaperones) in advance!
Q: Where do I park?
A: There is plenty of parking along the sides in front of the school.
Q: Can I pre-order lunch at TeenBookCon?
A: We do not have pre-sales for lunch. However there are many options for lunch. The food trucks will be taking cash and credit cards. Please note the food trucks lines may get long--please consider that when making your lunch choices.
We will once again have budget-friendly food choices available in the cafeteria during the lunch hour. Those will be cash-only and will include pizza (cheese or pepperoni), sodas, water, and other assorted snacks. Bring cash for lunch tickets for inside concessions.
Q: Can I be a VOLUNTEER?
A: Teens: teens in CyFair ISD who are interested in volunteering can get more information from their librarian.
Adults: if you are interested in volunteering for TeenBookCon 2020, check back here soon for the link.
Q: How can I contribute to TeenBookCon?
A: Our generous partners and sponsors are what keeps TBC free for all to attend. We are always looking for sponsors that would be a good fit with TeenBookCon (and TBC a good fit for them!). If you know of any businesses or organizations that you think would be interested in learning more about sponsorship opportunities, please contact us at "email@example.com". We rely on both monetary and in-kind donations! If you are an individual who would like to contribute, every amount helps and all donations are tax deductible. Please visit our sponsors page for more info.
Q: Yeah all that was great info - but I still have questions. Who should I contact?
A: If you still have questions about TeenBookCon, please email us. Contact info is at the bottom of every page!
